Body camera footage from patrol officers provides real examples of the consequences of drunk driving.
This year, police have already compiled over 135,801 administrative protocols under Art. 130 (Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (CUAO). Additionally, 631 accidents involving drunk drivers with casualties have been registered nationwide. In these accidents, 72 individuals have died and 842 have been injured.
At the same time, I would like to remind you that Art. 130 of the CUAO is not only about driving under the influence of alcohol, but also about:
- driving vehicles under the influence of drugs or other intoxicants,
- driving vehicles under the influence of medications that impair attention and reaction speed,
- transferring the control of a vehicle to a person who is under such intoxication or under the influence of such medications,
- refusal of a driver to undergo, according to established procedure, examination for alcohol, drug, or other intoxication or for the use of medications that impair attention and reaction speed.
Liability for driving under the influence:
- under part 1 of Art. 130 (Driving a vehicle under the influence or refusal to undergo intoxication examination) of the CUAO — fine of 17,000 hryvnias with revocation of the right to drive for 1 year;
- under part 2 of Art. 130 (Repeat offense within a year of driving under the influence) of the CUAO — fine of 34,000 hryvnias with revocation of the right to drive for 3 years with confiscation of the vehicle for a fee or without it, or administrative detention for 10 days with confiscation of the vehicle for a fee or without it;
- under part 3 of Art. 130 (Third and subsequent offenses within a year of driving under the influence) of the CUAO — 51,000 hryvnias with revocation of the right to drive for 10 years and confiscation of the vehicle, or administrative detention for 15 days with revocation of the right to drive for 10 years and confiscation of the vehicle;
- under part 4 of Art. 130 (Consumption by a driver involved in an accident of alcohol, drugs, psychotropic substances, or medications before the corresponding examination is conducted) of the CUAO — 34,000 hryvnias or administrative arrest for 15 days with revocation of the right to drive for 3 years.
