Detention of Prosecutor for Bribery in Chernihiv Region

A prosecutor from the Chernihiv region has been detained for receiving a bribe.

Today, under the direction of the General Inspectorate of the Prosecutor General’s Office, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation detained the prosecutor of the Koriukivka District Prosecutor’s Office. He was caught after receiving an unlawful benefit of 2,500 USD. This amount was intended for ‘resolving the issue’ of closing a criminal case and agreeing on its legality. The facts were documented, and the money was seized. The prosecutor was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and urgent searches are underway.

‘A prosecutor, like a sapper, has no right to make mistakes or even be tempted. His honor is a support for others’,

stated the Prosecutor General. He emphasized that those who take bribes are his enemies: ‘I will cover up for no one. I will not seek mitigating circumstances’. Further suspicion, dismissal, investigation, and trial are expected for the perpetrator.
