In the early hours of 3 September in central Lviv, near the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, a minor was attacked. According to the investigation, during a conflict a 23-year-old man inflicted grievous bodily harm on a 17-year-old boy.
The investigation established that in the course of the argument the suspect first kicked the teenager in the stomach and then punched him in the face. As a result, the minor sustained a closed craniocerebral injury, brain contusion, fracture of the cranial vault and a fracture of the lower jaw. According to doctors, these injuries are life-threatening, and the victim is currently in hospital.
The fight was witnessed by municipal guard officers, who separated those involved in the conflict and called medics and law enforcement officers.
Under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, the 23-year-old man has been notified that he is suspected of committing intentional grievous bodily harm that was life-threatening at the time it was inflicted (Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). At the request of the prosecution, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody with the right to post bail. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the National Police Main Directorate.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
