
In Lviv, police have identified two assailants who, in the evening in the city centre, beat a passer-by and threatened him with an object resembling a pistol. Procedural supervision in the criminal proceedings is being carried out by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident took place on 4 October at around 22:15 on Sholom Aleichem Street in Lviv. Two unidentified men, without any reason, provoked a conflict with passers-by, during which they knocked a 31-year-old Lviv resident to the pavement and beat him. The victim sustained minor bodily injuries – bruises and contusions.
During the attack, one of the perpetrators threatened their opponents with an object resembling a pistol. When witnesses called the 102 emergency hotline, both assailants fled.
To solve the crime, officers from the criminal police, investigators and staff from other units of Lviv District Police Department No.1, as well as detectives from the criminal investigation department and other units of the Lviv region police, were involved. The police established that those involved in the offence are residents of Dnipropetrovsk region aged 19 and 20, who are temporarily living in Lviv.
Investigators have notified the older suspect that he is under investigation for an offence under Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism). The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for up to four years.
The younger assailant, who, according to the investigation, threatened people with a weapon, attempted to hide from law enforcement. Police established his whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in the territory of Zakarpattia region. An object resembling an air pistol was seized from him and sent for expert examination.
A decision is being taken on notifying the detainee that he is under investigation under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism), which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will choose preventive measures for the suspects in the near future.
