Shed catches fire in Drohobych, injuring 66-year-old owner

In Drohobych, on Kotliarevsky Street, a fire broke out in an outbuilding, during which the 66-year-old owner sustained burns and was taken to hospital. The report of the blaze reached the Rescue Service “101” on 4 August at 15:22.

A wooden shed was burning and, by the time firefighters arrived, it was completely engulfed in flames. The fire spread to a wooden fence, and due to the dense development there was a risk that the blaze could spread to a residential building. The situation was complicated by heavy smoke.

Before the fire and rescue units arrived, the owner had tried to extinguish the flames on his own. While attempting to save his property, the man suffered burns to his hands, face and body. The casualty was taken to Drohobych City Hospital.

Rescuers contained the fire at 15:43, and at 15:45 they had completely extinguished the blaze. They managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential building. Eight rescuers and two units of specialist equipment were involved in tackling the fire.

Experts are establishing the causes and circumstances of the fire.
