A 30-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Drohobych district, previously prosecuted for drug offences, is accused of the illegal circulation of cannabis. The indictment in the criminal proceedings has been submitted to the court.
According to the investigation, the man purchased batches of the narcotic drug cannabis, packaged it and sold it to “clients” by making “dead drops”, as well as handing it over in person in his own garage.
Law enforcement officers documented several episodes of unlawful activity. On 29 May, the offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The operation was carried out by officers of the criminal police and investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department under the procedural supervision of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office, with tactical support from special forces and the involvement of a dog handler with a police service dog from the Lviv region police.
During a court-authorised search at the suspect’s place of residence, police officers discovered and seized a package containing a substance resembling cannabis, packaging paraphernalia and other physical evidence. All seized items have been sent for expert examination.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed under Part 2 of Article 307 (illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) and Part 2 of Article 309 (illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation or shipment of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues without intent to sell) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For the offences charged, the accused faces up to ten years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
