According to the public indictment of the prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 28-year-old man was found guilty of premeditated murder with selfish motives and robbery (Clause 6, Part 2, Article 115, Part 4, Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and his 29-year-old accomplice – in robberies (Part 3 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The man was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, the accomplice – to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that in January 2022, convicts came to sell honey in one of the cities of the Drohobytsky district.
A man and a woman, under the pretext of selling their goods, came to the house where a lonely 80-year-old woman lived.
While the suspect diverted the pensioner’s attention, the 29-year-old accused broke into the victim’s house and ransacked it. However, the owner of the house heard rustling in the room and realized that they were trying to rob her, and started calling for help. At that moment, the accused attacked the old woman, punched her several times in the face and pushed her into the room.
The man tied the hands of the pensioner, and so that she would not scream, he put a towel in her mouth and tied it with a knot. At that moment, the accomplice stole money and all valuables of the pensioner and left the house.
However, the 28-year-old defendant did not stop there and wrapped a sweater around the victim’s neck in such a way as to block the access of air to the respiratory tract and as a result caused suffocation and continued the search for the deceased’s valuables.
The accomplices left the scene of the crime with a total of more than UAH 24,000 looted.
The local resident was found dead two days later by her relatives.
The convicts are in custody until the verdict becomes final.
