Flat catches fire in five-storey building in Drohobych, no one inside

In Drohobych, rescuers extinguished a fire in a flat in a multi-storey residential building and prevented the flames from spreading to neighbouring homes, the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv Region reported.

The incident occurred at 22:15 on 27 May on Knyahyni Olhy Street. The fire broke out in the kitchen of a flat on the ground floor of a five-storey residential building.

According to rescuers, a passer-by noticed reflections of flames in the flat window and immediately called the Rescue Service. Fire and rescue units promptly arrived at the scene.

From neighbours, emergency workers learned that there might be a woman with children inside the flat, so they had to act as quickly as possible. The flat was densely filled with toxic combustion products.

Rescuers, as part of a gas and smoke protection team, carried out a search of the premises and at the same time began extinguishing the fire. No people were found in the flat. The fire was contained at 22:34 and fully extinguished at 22:40.

The flames destroyed household items over an area of 2 sq. m. Seven rescuers and two units of special equipment were deployed to tackle the blaze.

The State Emergency Service reminds the public of the need to follow fire safety rules at home: do not leave electrical appliances switched on and unattended, check they are in working order and monitor the condition of electrical wiring.
