Law enforcement officers have uncovered an illegal manufacturing site for counterfeit batteries of a well-known American brand in a garage in Dublyany, Lviv region.
According to the investigation, in April 2023, a 51-year-old man from Kyiv organized a production scheme for fake products. He enlisted two residents of Lviv region, aged 49 and 53, to assist him. Each participant had clearly defined responsibilities:
- The organizer managed supplier contacts, purchased materials, ordered branded packaging, and oversaw the entire process.
- The executors, upon receiving materials by mail, handled the illegal production of counterfeit goods.
The operation was set up in a garage in Dublyany, where unbranded batteries were labeled with fake brand stickers and packed into boxes bearing the company’s logo.
During searches conducted at the garage and at one executor’s residence, law enforcement seized:
- machinery used in the production of counterfeit goods;
- rolls of fake labels;
- packaging materials;
- approximately 220 boxes containing nearly 40,000 batteries of various sizes.
Expert examinations confirmed the products were counterfeit. The manufacturer sustained estimated damages of around 1.6 million UAH.
The organizer has been charged with organizing and illegally using trademarks as part of an organized group (Part 3 of Article 27 and Part 3 of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The executors face similar charges under Part 3 of Article 229.
The investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region, with operational support from the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
