Man detained in Horodok for committing domestic violence and storing weapons

In the town of Horodok in Lviv district, police officers detained a 60-year-old man suspected of domestic violence and the unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition. This was reported by the Lviv Region Police.

On 20 May, a resident of Horodok called the 102 hotline to report domestic violence. A response team from the patrol police response unit of Police Station No.1 of Lviv District Police Department No.2 was dispatched to the address provided.

Law enforcement officers established that the 60-year-old resident of the house had been violent towards his relatives and was also storing ammunition in the dwelling. An investigative team, forensic experts and explosive ordnance technicians of the Lviv Region Police worked at the scene.

In the house, police officers discovered two F-1 grenade bodies with detonators, a smoke grenade, an object resembling a pistol, a rifled hunting rifle, almost 600 rounds of various calibres, a sight and other equipment. All the seized items were sent for expert examination.

The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, served him with a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). The article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

In addition, an administrative report was drawn up against the suspect under Part 1 of Article 173-2 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (commission of domestic violence), which provides for a fine, community service or administrative arrest for up to ten days.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, examinations have been commissioned, and law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the weapons and ammunition. The court will soon choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
