In Lviv, a 21-year-old local resident has been formally notified of suspicion of robbery committed under martial law by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy. The criminal proceedings are being investigated under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with procedural supervision carried out by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
According to the investigation, at the beginning of July this year the suspect learned of a significant amount of money on the bank account of a hotel guest in Lviv. He then joined the group with whom the 21-year-old victim was gambling and, waiting for his moment, snatched the mobile phone from the victim’s hands.
When the victim tried to get his phone back, the attacker, according to the investigation, repeatedly struck him with his hands and feet to the head, torso and limbs. By issuing threats, he forced the man to grant access to his mobile banking, after which he headed to a cash machine together with the victim and a 16-year-old girl who was present.
At the cash machine, the suspect withdrew 20,000 UAH from the victim’s account, but due to the bank’s limit he was unable to obtain the remaining funds. Then, according to the investigation, he threatened the 16-year-old girl with physical violence and forced her to hand over her bank card. A further 33,500 UAH was transferred to this card from the victim’s account, after which the girl was forced to withdraw the money and hand it over to the attacker.
In total, the individual involved, according to law enforcement, took possession of the victim’s mobile phone and money amounting to over 53,000 UAH. At the request of the prosecution, the court imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention in custody without the right to bail. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Investigative Division of Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
