Lviv region police investigate circumstances of two road accidents with cyclists – one killed and one injured
The Lviv regional police call on road users to strictly follow the safety rules. Drivers, do not exceed the permitted and safe speed, especially in populated areas, in adverse road and weather conditions, as well as in conditions of low visibility.
Bicycle drivers, do not perform risky manoeuvres on the road and signal your intention to change direction with signs that are clear to other drivers. Cross roads on pedestrian crossings with your two-wheeler behind the wheel. Take care of reflective elements on your clothes and bicycle!
On 7 November, at 13:40, on the Rava-Ruska – Potelychi road, near the village of Potelychi, a 78-year-old female driver of a Citroen Berlingo, a resident of Yavoriv district, hit a 64-year-old female cyclist. As a result of the accident, the victim sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.
On the same day, at around 18.50, in a village in Lviv district, the driver of an Audi, a 20-year-old resident of Lviv, hit a cyclist, a 69-year-old local resident. As a result of the collision, the man died at the scene.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department and investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 opened criminal proceedings under Part 1, 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The maximum penalty for committing a fatal road traffic accident under the sanction of the article is imprisonment for up to 8 years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years. The maximum penalty for causing bodily harm is restraint of liberty for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
The police are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
