The road accident occurred on 22 October, around 19.50, on the Lviv-Ternopil motorway near the village of Chyzhykiv, Lviv district.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of an Opel Omega, a 60-year-old resident of Vinnytsia, hit an unidentified pedestrian.
The pedestrian died on the spot from the injuries sustained in the accident.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the deceased pedestrian.
