The accident occurred on 23 August, at around 10.00 a.m., on the Mshana-Rudno stretch at picket 5 in the village of Sukhovolia, Lviv district.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the electric locomotive hit a 65-year-old resident of the district who was lying near the track.
The man died at the scene from his injuries.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Regional Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 276 (Violation of the rules of safety of movement or operation of railway, water or air transport) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years.
The police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
