Man suspected of fatally beating fellow villager detained in Lviv district

In Lviv district, law enforcement officers detained a 44-year-old village resident suspected of inflicting fatal injuries on his 59-year-old fellow villager. This was reported by the Lviv Region Police.

According to police, on 28 May at around 22:30, doctors informed them that a 59-year-old resident of one of the villages in Lviv district had died in the intensive care unit of a hospital. The day before, the man had been taken to the medical facility with head injuries.

To establish the circumstances of the incident, officers of the criminal police, investigators and other staff of Police Station No. 2 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 were brought in. Preliminary findings by law enforcement indicate that on 27 May, a 44-year-old fellow villager came to visit his 59-year-old acquaintance. During a sudden conflict, the guest struck the host on the head with a stone, causing him grievous bodily injuries.

The victim was hospitalised, but he died in hospital the following day despite the medical assistance provided.

The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, served him with a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily injury). The sanction of this article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
