In Lviv, 23-year-old man beat acquaintance and stole his hunting weapon

On Zhasmynova Street in Lviv, while drinking alcohol, a sudden conflict broke out between a 23-year-old and a 39-year-old Lviv resident, as a result of which the younger man seriously injured his acquaintance and took possession of his hunting weapon.

According to preliminary findings by law enforcement officers, on 16 June the 23-year-old man struck the older man several times in the face with his fists, causing him serious bodily injuries. After that, he openly took possession of the victim’s hunting rifled weapon. The injured man was taken to hospital.

Officers of Lviv District Police Department No.1 detained the perpetrator under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized the stolen weapon from him. Criminal police operatives, investigators and officers of other units were involved in solving the crime.

Investigators of the territorial police unit informed the detainee that he is suspected of committing criminal offences under Part 1 of Article 121 (intentional grievous bodily injury), Part 1 of Article 262 (theft, misappropriation, extortion of firearms, ammunition, explosives or radioactive materials, or taking possession of them through fraud or abuse of office) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The maximum penalty provided for by the sanctions of these articles is up to eight years’ imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
