In Lviv, a 35-year-old man sentenced for a series of night-time thefts totalling over UAH 63,000

In Lviv, a 35-year-old local resident has been sentenced to an actual term of imprisonment after committing a series of thefts in a single night in the area of the ‘Narodnyi Market’ in Sykhiv. This was reported by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.

Prosecutors proved in court that the man was guilty of unlawful entry into premises and thefts committed repeatedly under martial law (Part 1 of Article 162, Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). For the totality of the offences, he was sentenced to 7 years and 9 months’ imprisonment, which also included the unserved part of a previous sentence for theft.

The investigation established that in April last year, at night, the man unlawfully entered five premises near the ‘Narodnyi Market’ in Sykhiv. These were a fitness club, two shops, an atelier and a food establishment. He robbed four of these sites by damaging or forcing open the doors, and in one case by picking a key.

In just under three hours, property and cash worth a total of over UAH 63,000 were stolen from four establishments. In the morning, staff discovered the damage and the disappearance of property and contacted the police. Shortly afterwards, law enforcement officers identified and tracked down the perpetrator, who turned out to be a Lviv resident previously convicted multiple times for property offences.

In July last year, the indictment in this criminal case was submitted to the court, and in October this year the man was sentenced. The court’s decision will enter into legal force after the expiry of the time limit for lodging an appeal.
