In Lviv, in the area of Shchurata Street, a 39-year-old local resident is suspected of inflicting grievous bodily harm on his 41-year-old friend, from which the latter died. This was reported with reference to investigative data from the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.

According to the investigation, on 23 August this year the men were drinking alcohol near a shop when a domestic dispute broke out between them. During the conflict, the younger of the men struck the older one once with his fist in the ear, after which he lost his balance, fell onto the pavement and lost consciousness.

Passers-by called the police and paramedics. Emergency doctors who arrived at the scene were unable to save the victim – he had died before they arrived from a severe head injury with brain oedema.

Law enforcement officers detained the 39-year-old Lviv resident under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, he has been notified of suspicion of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm resulting in the victim’s death (Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention in custody without the right to bail.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Division No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until his or her guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
