
A 53-year-old Lviv resident has been sentenced to five years in prison for brutally killing a dog, an act classified as cruelty to animals resulting in death under Article 299, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The conviction was secured by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv.
The investigation revealed that in early March of this year, the man used a homemade bat to beat his partner’s dog to death inside their apartment in the Shevchenkivskyi district. After committing the act, he placed the animal’s body in a bag and left it on a shared balcony. The bag was discovered by a neighbor, who promptly called the police.
At the prosecutor’s request, the man remains in custody pending final proceedings.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Administration No. 1, Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
The court’s decision will take legal effect after the appeal period has expired.
