In Lviv, a 65-year-old man charged over assault on police officer

In Lviv, a 65-year-old local resident has been notified of suspicion in connection with an assault on a police officer that occurred during a call-out to a report of domestic violence. This was reported by law enforcement agencies and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident took place on 1 August at around 19:40 in one of the houses on Shevchenka Street, where a crew from the Patrol Police Department of the Lviv Region had arrived. While the circumstances of the incident were being clarified, an unknown man suddenly attacked one of the police officers.

The attacker struck the officer several times on the head, neck and shoulder area with a wooden stick with a metal handle, causing bodily injuries to the police officer. The perpetrator was later identified as a 65-year-old resident of Lviv.

Investigators from Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, notified the man that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer).

The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for the same term. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and a decision is being made on the choice of a preventive measure for the suspect.
