In the Sykhiv neighbourhood of Lviv, a 69-year-old man is suspected of causing grievous bodily harm to his 46-year-old female acquaintance, from which she died. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
According to the investigation, on the morning of Wednesday, 22 July, the man and his acquaintance were drinking alcohol in the suspect’s flat. During the drinking, an argument broke out between them, during which the host struck his guest once with the edge of his hand in the neck area.
From the blow, the woman fell and soon died. Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of death was sudden cardiac arrest caused by a neck injury.
A few hours after the incident, the man dragged the body into the corridor and called the police, claiming that an unknown woman was threatening him in his flat. Law enforcement officers who arrived in response to the call discovered the victim’s body and called medics, after which the flat owner was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion of causing intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in the victim’s death (Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
