In Lviv, near a school on Hetmana Mazepy Street, a robbery took place in broad daylight, as a result of which a 58-year-old woman suffered a broken arm, and the suspect was detained.
According to the investigation, yesterday afternoon a 36-year-old Lviv resident ran up to a woman who was walking along the street and with both hands tried to tear a gold chain from her neck. During the struggle, the victim fell onto the pavement, and the attacker, having seized only the gold pendant that was on the chain, fled.
The woman immediately contacted the police. Law enforcement officers promptly detained the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine near a pawnshop, where he had already handed in the stolen piece of jewellery. The detainee turned out to be a resident of the same district, who had repeatedly been brought to justice for property offences in the past.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries sustained during the struggle and the fall. Doctors diagnosed her with a fracture of the arm with bone displacement.
Under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, the man has been notified that he is suspected of robbery under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until his or her guilt is proved in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
