The SBU detained a wanted ex-prosecutor and his lawyer mother-in-law, who was involved in “schemes for fugitives” in Lviv

SBU officers and the Prosecutor’s Office have dismantled another scheme of mobilisation evasion, which was operating in the western regions of Ukraine.
As a result of complex measures, the organiser of the scheme, a local lawyer, was detained in Lviv region. During the searches of her house, the SBU also detained her partner, a former prosecutor who had been wanted for almost a year on suspicion of forgery.
According to the case file, the lawyer acted as part of a criminal group that involved officials of medical institutions and the region’s MSEC, as well as employees of the TCC and the JV of Lviv region.
According to the available data, the cost of the offenders’ services was up to USD 12 thousand per person, and in total they managed to “earn” almost half a million US dollars.
The “scheme” operated in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
Together with her accomplices, the lawyer assisted the evaders in updating their military registration data in state registers and provided fictitious registration of a disability group.
This scheme allowed potential recruits to illegally cross the border of Ukraine.
Law enforcers detained the organiser of the scheme on receiving the first instalment of USD 3,500.
During the searches, almost UAH 1.5 million in the hryvnia equivalent was found in her handbag. In addition, draft records confirming the illegal activity were seized.
Based on the evidence collected, the National Police investigators served the lawyer a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit for oneself or a third party for influencing the decision-making of a person authorised to perform state functions).
A custody was chosen as a form of detention.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Lviv region operatives jointly with the Ivano-Frankivsk Police under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defence and protection of the Western region.
