At Lviv Correctional Facility No. 19, a 28-year-old junior inspector has been notified that he is suspected of exceeding his official authority, as a result of which a prisoner completely lost sight in one eye. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, at the end of June last year a dispute arose between the inspector, who works as a security systems technician, and a man serving a sentence for robbery. During the conflict, the facility employee punched the prisoner in the face.
From a single blow, the victim sustained serious bodily injuries – trauma to the right eye with tissue rupture and haemorrhage, after which he completely lost sight in that eye.
The inspector has been notified that he is suspected under Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – exceeding official authority combined with violence that caused serious consequences. A decision is being considered on his suspension from duty and the imposition of a preventive measure.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation located in the city of Lviv. In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
