On the evening of 13 August, a fire broke out in a flat on the sixth floor of a multi-storey building on Radist Street in Lviv. According to the rescuers, the report of the fire came in at 22:05.
When fire and rescue units arrived at the scene, thick smoke was billowing from the flat’s windows. Residents of the sixth and upper floors had left the building on their own before the rescuers arrived.
Due to the heavy clutter in the flat with household items and rubbish, the fire was accompanied by the intense release of toxic products of combustion. A sofa and household items were burning in the flat over an area of about 20 sq. m.
The fire was contained at 22:23 and fully extinguished at 22:27. As a result of the incident, the 59-year-old owner of the flat was taken to one of Lviv’s medical facilities. Specialists are establishing the cause of the fire and the circumstances of the incident.
Rescuers stress the need to strictly follow fire safety rules at home, not to leave electrical appliances switched on and unattended, and to be especially careful with open flames, since, in particular, smoking in bed or while under the influence of alcohol is one of the common causes of fires.
