The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has successfully proven the guilt of five Ukrainian citizens who were convicted of treason, participation in a terrorist organization, and involvement in illegal armed formations. Each convict received a 15-year prison sentence with confiscation of property.
Investigations revealed that in 2022, residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the occupying state. They joined the so-called “people’s militias” of the self-proclaimed “DPR” and “LPR.” One of them had signed a contract back in 2014 to serve in the illegal “Amur” battalion.
The men were assigned to Russian military formations, where they held positions such as deputy battalion commander for logistical support, radio telegrapher, and riflemen.
Within these units, they were equipped with uniforms, weapons, and ammunition and underwent combat training, including assault, offense, and retreat tactics. During their service, they carried out missions related to combat actions against the Armed Forces of Ukraine and ensured the security of Russian forces’ positions in occupied territories. The deputy battalion commander issued orders to subordinate servicemen.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, these individuals participated in battles in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU Directorate in the Lviv region.
