In Lviv, on Lychakivska Street, during road repair works on the morning of 12 August, workers came across an object resembling an obsolete piece of ordnance. The community rescue officer, who arrived promptly at the scene, identified it as a 76-millimetre artillery shell dating back to the Second World War.
The dangerous object was lying just one metre from a residential building, posing a potential threat to local residents. The obsolete munition was removed by sappers from the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and disposed of in accordance with established procedure.
Rescuers remind the public that discoveries of such wartime “relics” are still occurring. If you find a suspicious object, you must move to a safe distance and immediately call the Rescue Service on 101. Only specialists are authorised to deal with explosive objects.
