Lviv police track down driver who hit a cyclist and fled the scene

The 44-year-old resident of Lviv, who was driving a Honda Pilot, faces a sentence of restriction of liberty for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

The road accident occurred on 6 June at 10.30 am on Shevchenko Street in Lviv. An unknown driver, driving an unidentified car, hit a cyclist, a 31-year-old Lviv resident, and fled the scene. As a result of the accident, the cyclist was injured and taken to hospital.

Investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of the rules of road safety). The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is restraint of liberty for up to three years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

Following the investigation, officers of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 established that the cyclist was hit by a 44-year-old Lviv resident driving a Honda Pilot. The vehicle was taken to the impound lot, and the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
