In Lviv, the police have exposed an attacker on suspicion of stealing from children

Taking advantage of the fact that two boys left their handbags unattended during the game, the attacker stole them, thereby taking mobile phones, headphones and other children’s property.

As the law enforcement officers established, on June 19, around 8:00 p.m., two boys, local residents aged 10 and 12, were playing on the playground on Morozenka Street in Lviv. They had handbags with them, which contained mobile phones, headphones, house keys and small amounts of money. During the game, the children ran away, leaving these handbags unattended, and when they returned, it turned out that someone had stolen them. Later, the boys’ mothers contacted the police with statements.

Detectives of the criminal police and investigators of police department No. 1 of Lviv district police department No. 2 were involved in solving the crime. Through the conducted measures, with the help of video surveillance cameras located as part of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, law enforcement officers established that a 35-year-old man from Lviv was involved in the theft. Physical evidence was taken from him.

The issue of notifying an intruder of suspicion of committing a criminal offense, provided for in Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as choosing a preventive measure for him, is being resolved. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
