Lviv police detain previously convicted offender suspected of attempted shop robbery

The 23-year-old resident of Lviv, who has previously been prosecuted for causing grievous bodily harm and robbery, faces imprisonment for up to ten years.

According to law enforcement officers, on 5 November at around 11.00 a.m., the offender entered a store on Volodymyr Velykyi Street in Lviv, took goods and tried to escape without paying at the cash register. The store employees called the 102 operational line and officers of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, who immediately arrived at the scene, detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified as a 23-year-old Lviv resident who had previously been prosecuted for causing grievous bodily harm and robbery. The material evidence was seized from him.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office, served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 15 – Part 4 of Article 186 (attempted robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.

Law enforcement officers remind that under martial law, theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office, are punishable by maximum penalties.
