In Lviv, a 35-year-old head of the technical department at one of the municipal enterprises is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit of 20,000 UAH for approving a working project. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, in July this year a representative of the owner of non-residential premises in Lviv approached the official regarding the approval of a project required for a non-standard connection of the facility to the electrical grid. The suspect’s official duties included precisely the approval of such documentation.
The investigation believes that the official, abusing his official position, told the applicant that he would sign the project only after receiving an unlawful benefit. The man contacted law enforcement officers and subsequently acted under their control.
After the applicant was given the already approved project, the official received the agreed 20,000 UAH, after which he was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He has been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for receiving an unlawful benefit by an official, combined with its extortion.
At the request of the prosecution, a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail was chosen for the suspect. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv Region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until his or her guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
