Lviv investigates cruel treatment of dog on Shota Rustaveli Street

In Lviv, criminal proceedings have been opened over the cruel treatment of a dog on Shota Rustaveli Street. According to law enforcement officers, on 18 July the police received a report that the owner had allegedly thrown a Malinois dog out of a window.

Investigators from Lviv District Police Department No.1, under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, have launched criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – cruel treatment of animals.

The sanction under this article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a term of one to three years or imprisonment for a term of two to three years, with confiscation of the animal.

A pre-trial investigation is currently under way, within which the necessary examinations will be appointed and other procedural actions carried out.
