21-year-old man in Lviv to stand trial for collaborating with Russian intelligence services

In Lviv, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 21-year-old man accused of subversive activities in the interests of the Russian intelligence services. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, in July this year the man was looking for work on Telegram, where he was contacted by representatives of the intelligence services of the Russian Federation. Fully aware of the unlawful nature of the proposed activities, he agreed to cooperate and carried out various tasks assigned by his handlers.

The accused travelled to Lviv, where he took photographs and video footage of one of the Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. He immediately passed the recorded materials, together with the exact coordinates of the filming location, to his handlers, which enabled the enemy to receive up-to-date information on strategic railway hubs.

In addition, the man painted graffiti in Lviv advertising “easy money”. The link in question led to a hostile resource which, according to the investigation, is used by the Russian Federation’s intelligence services to recruit Ukrainian citizens and involve them in subversive activities.

After completing his last task, he was detained by law enforcement officers under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The man is charged with high treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and is currently in custody. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv Region.

In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
