
In Lviv, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 39-year-old local resident who is accused of delivering a fatal blow to the head of his 41-year-old acquaintance. This was reported by the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
According to the investigation, at the end of August this year the men were drinking alcoholic beverages together. During a verbal conflict, the accused struck the victim with his fist in the area of the right ear. The blow was delivered from behind, so the victim did not see it and could not defend himself.
From the blow, the man lost his balance, fell onto the pavement and died at the scene. According to the forensic medical examination, he sustained severe injuries to the head, spine and spinal cord, which caused his death.
After receiving the examination results, the attacker was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He has been charged with intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in the victim’s death (Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by the Investigation Department of Police Station No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
