In Lviv, an indictment has been submitted to court against a junior inspector (security systems technician) of Lviv Penitentiary Institution No. 19, who is accused of abuse of office with serious consequences. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, at the end of June last year a dispute arose between the inspector and an inmate serving a sentence for robbery. During the conflict, the prison officer punched the man in the face.
As a result, according to the case file, the victim sustained serious bodily injuries – trauma to the right eye with tissue rupture and haemorrhage, and completely lost sight in that eye.
The actions of the accused have been classified under Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – abuse of office combined with violence, which caused serious consequences. The inspector has currently been suspended from duty.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by the Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation based in the city of Lviv.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
