The road accident occurred on 24 August, around 19.50, on Naukova Street in Lviv.
Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of a Volkswagen Tiguan, an 81-year-old resident of Lviv, hit pedestrians, a 51-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man, who were crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing.
The man died at the scene of the accident from his injuries. The woman was injured and hospitalised.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
