
In Lviv, police revealed a suspect involved in the distribution of malicious software.
The law enforcement officers established that the perpetrator was distributing malicious software intended for stealing personal and confidential information from the victims’ computers by making it publicly available on the Internet. Subsequently, using specialized hacking software, he unauthorizedly intervened and accessed automated systems without the owners’ consent, stealing personal and confidential information.
The offender, a 20-year-old resident of Lviv, was uncovered by the officers of the Cybercrime Counteraction Department in the Lviv region, in partnership with the investigators of Lviv District Police Department No. 2, under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators informed the perpetrator of the suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Part 1, Part 2 of Article 361 (‘Unauthorized interference with the operation of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks’) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 1, Part 2 of Article 361-1 (‘Creation for the purpose of illegal use, distribution, or sale of harmful software or technical means, as well as their distribution or sale’) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment facing the suspect is imprisonment for up to five years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
