Military Doctor in Lviv Caught Taking Bribe

In Lviv, law enforcement officers uncovered a military doctor who demanded an unlawful benefit from a soldier. A vascular surgeon from one of the military medical institutions received 1,500 dollars for organising the issuance of a medical report, which would serve as a basis for passing the Military Medical Commission. This was intended to influence the decision regarding the soldier’s fitness for service in the rear units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The doctor knew that the soldier had all the grounds for passing the MMC, and the established diagnosis allowed him to serve in the specified units. The perpetrator was exposed by investigators from the department for investigating crimes in the field of economic and official activities of the Lviv police, together with operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department.

On 9 March, the doctor was detained after receiving the unlawful benefit. He has been notified of suspicion of committing a crime under part 3 of article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
