In Lviv over the course of one day there were four road traffic collisions, all caused by driving under the influence of alcohol. All the drivers were issued with administrative notices for breaches of the Highway Code.
On Kostia Levytskoho Street, the driver of a Range Rover hit a metal post and drove off. The caller reported the direction of travel, so the police stopped the vehicle on Tarnavskoho Street. The car had damage consistent with this collision, and the driver was showing signs of intoxication. The Drager breathalyser recorded a reading of 1.31‰ alcohol.
This driver was issued with three reports: under Article 122-4 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (leaving the scene of a collision), under Article 124 (breach of traffic rules resulting in a collision) and under Part 1 of Article 130 (driving under the influence).
On Nyzynna Street, the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer hit two parked cars and also left the scene. Police traced the man, who was showing signs of alcohol intoxication. The Drager showed 2.22‰. Officers drew up the same reports as in the previous case, and also issued a penalty notice for failing to have the documents required to drive the vehicle.
On Mushaka Street, the driver of a Renault Logan collided with a parked car. The result of the drink-drive test was 2.24‰. The offender was issued with reports for drink-driving and for causing a collision.
Another incident happened on Shevchenka Street, where the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser crashed into a parked vehicle. Tests carried out in a medical facility showed 1.95‰ alcohol in the driver’s system. The penalties he faces are the same as for the other drivers involved in these incidents.
The police stress that driving under the influence is dangerous, as drivers lose control of their actions and risk causing serious consequences.
