In Lviv, a 40-year-old local resident has been sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment for an armed robbery of an alcohol shop in the Mayorivka neighbourhood. Prosecutors from the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv proved his guilt in committing the crime.
The incident took place at the end of October last year in a shop on Medovoi Pechery Street. Wearing a medical face mask, the man entered the shop, approached the shop assistant, grabbed her by the arm and, threatening her with a toy gun that looked like a real firearm, began demanding money from the till.
The shop assistant believed the weapon to be real, feared for her life and did not resist. She handed over all the cash from the till to the assailant, after which he fled the shop.
After the attack, the woman immediately contacted the police and provided a description of the man and the circumstances of the incident. Thanks to the coordinated work of law enforcement officers, the attacker was located and detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was charged with robbery with intent to seize another person’s property, combined with a threat of violence dangerous to the life or health of the victim, committed under martial law (Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Until the verdict becomes final, the man will remain in custody. The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. The court verdict will come into force after the appeal period has expired.
