19-year-old Detained in Lviv for Armed Robbery

In Lviv, police detained a 19-year-old young man on suspicion of committing an armed robbery.

Threatening with a weapon, the perpetrator demanded the cashier of a trading kiosk to hand over the proceeds. For his actions, he faces a penalty of up to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property. Law enforcement officers established that on May 17 at 6:15 PM, a masked man ran into the trading kiosk located on Kulchytska Street, threatened the cashier with a gun, and demanded she hand over the proceeds. However, the woman did not panic and told the attacker she would call the police, after which he fired at a shelf and fled the scene.

To search for and apprehend the perpetrator, operatives of the criminal police, investigators, and employees of other services of Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2, operatives of the criminal investigation department, as well as employees of the Criminal Analysis Department and other services of the Lviv Police were involved. After examining the video surveillance footage of the “Safe Lviv” system, law enforcement officers identified the attacker’s location within a few hours and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He turned out to be a 19-year-old resident of Lviv.

During a sanctioned search, police seized a pneumatic gun, a balaclava, as well as other physical evidence linking him to the crime. All seized items were sent for examination to the Lviv Research Forensic Center. Under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office, the detainee was notified of suspicion in committing the crime outlined in Part 4 of Article 187 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty as stipulated by the article’s sanctions is up to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will determine a preventive measure for the suspect.
