In Lviv, law enforcement officers have detained a 20-year-old native of Dnipropetrovsk region, who, according to the investigation, is suspected of collaborating with Russian special services, passing on information about railway infrastructure facilities and assisting in the recruitment of new operatives.
The investigation established that the man was looking for extra work via the Telegram messenger, where he was contacted by representatives of the special services of the Russian Federation. Aware that this involved unlawful activity in the enemy’s interests, he allegedly agreed to carry out their tasks.
In Lviv, the suspect photographed and filmed “Ukrzaliznytsia” facilities and immediately sent the customers the material obtained, together with precise coordinates. According to the investigation, this enabled the Russian side to receive information on strategic railway hubs without delay.
In addition, according to law enforcement officers, the man was involved in recruiting new operatives for the special services of the Russian Federation. To this end, he painted graffiti in Lviv advertising “easy money”. The link indicated in the inscriptions led to a hostile resource which, according to the investigation, is used to involve Ukrainian citizens in subversive activities on the side of the Russian Federation.
After completing the last task he had been given, the man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified that he is suspected of high treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail was imposed on him. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proved in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
