Man detained in Lviv after firing shotgun and threatening young woman

In the Lviv region, police have detained a 40-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia region, suspected of firing a shotgun in Lviv and threatening a young woman with a weapon in the village of Birky. This was reported by the Lviv region police.

On 1 July at around 23:30, the emergency line “102” received a report that on Shevchenka Street in Lviv, an unidentified man had fired about nine shots into the air from a shotgun, then got into a Chrysler Grand Voyager and drove off in the direction of Yavoriv. No one was injured in the shooting.

Later, law enforcement officers received information that in the village of Birky, the driver of the same vehicle had threatened a young woman with a weapon. To track down the offender, operatives and investigators from Police Station No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department, other Lviv region police units and officers of the Patrol Police Department in Lviv region were brought in.

Officers established that the offence involved a former serviceman, a 40-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia region. Within a few hours he was located and detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During a search of the vehicle, police discovered and seized a pump-action shotgun and cartridges for it.

Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing; a decision is being taken on notifying the man of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure. Procedural supervision is being carried out by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
