Man detained in Lviv after seriously injuring 63-year-old acquaintance

In Lviv, on Khodkevych Street, a 32-year-old Lviv resident severely beat his 63-year-old acquaintance during a conflict. The victim was taken to hospital and the police opened criminal proceedings.

According to preliminary findings by law enforcement officers, at around 06:00 on 15 June a conflict suddenly broke out between two Lviv residents aged 32 and 63. During the argument, the younger man struck the older one several times in the head with his fists, as a result of which the latter sustained serious bodily injuries.

At around 07:00 the police received a report from medics about an assaulted man on Khodkevych Street. To establish the circumstances of the incident, operatives from the criminal police, investigators and staff from other units of Police Department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 were deployed.

The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional infliction of serious bodily injury). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
