Two Detained in Lviv for Kidnapping and Extortion

In Lviv, two men were detained for kidnapping a 40-year-old resident with a disability and demanding ransom.

According to the investigation, on January 9th, a school acquaintance of the victim lured him out of his house under the pretense of “drinking coffee”. The man was held in a car, threatened with a knife, and beaten with a wooden stick while being extorted for 25 thousand US dollars. The perpetrators believed he had significant funds following his father’s death.

The victim was held for nearly 10 hours and forced to call his relatives. Only when he was left unattended, did he manage to inform his wife, who contacted the police. Thanks to the coordinated effort of law enforcement, the car was stopped on Vyhovsky Street.

The two Lviv residents have been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. One of them had previously been convicted for robbery. They have been informed of suspicion in illegal deprivation of liberty and extortion of property with the threat of violence during martial law.
