
In Lviv, a man was detained after attacking a police officer with a pepper spray.
As a result of the incident, the officer received chemical burns to the eyes. The detained man faces up to five years in prison for the crime. On October 28th, after midnight, a patrol police unit of the Lviv Regional Patrol Police Department received a call that on Lychakivska Street, a 41-year-old Lviv resident in a state of intoxication was acting aggressively, running with a stick, and committing domestic violence.
Upon arrival at the scene, the patrol officers tried to calm the man down, but he continued to behave aggressively, then he pulled out a pepper spray and sprayed gas in the face of a 26-year-old police officer. The medics later diagnosed the officer with chemical burns to his face and eyes.
A criminal investigation team from the Lviv District Police Department No.1 worked on the scene. The perpetrator has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Halytsky District Prosecutor’s Office, informed him of the suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 345 (Threats or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a sentence of up to five years of imprisonment or custodial restraint for the same period.
The pre-trial investigation continues, and soon the court will determine a preventive measure for the suspect.
