Attacker on Police Officer Detained in Lviv

A young man who attacked a police officer with pepper spray was detained in Lviv.

As a result of the incident, the officer suffered chemical burns, including to his eye. The 18-year-old resident of Lviv faces up to five years in prison for the offense. The incident occurred on October 11 around 3:00 AM during curfew hours. Police noticed a group of young men on Chornovola Avenue in Lviv, who were blatantly disturbing public order.

While checking documents, one of the young men took out pepper spray and sprayed it in the police officer’s face. Medical professionals diagnosed the officer with a chemical burn to the face and eye. A forensic team worked at the scene. The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators have charged him with a crime under part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for a punishment of up to five years of imprisonment or detention for the same period. Pre-trial investigation continues, and the court will soon decide on a preventive measure for the suspect.
