
In Lviv, police officers exposed and detained a man suspected of carrying out a robbery attack on a 66-year-old woman in a block of flats on Yaroslav Hashek Street. The victim did not suffer physical injuries.
The report of the incident was received on the 102 hotline on 23 May at around 21:00. According to law enforcement officers, an unknown man, threatening her with a knife, demanded money and valuables from the pensioner.
Frightened, the woman handed over to the attacker her pension in the amount of 3 thousand hryvnias and jewellery, after which the man fled.
To establish the identity and detain the suspect, criminal police operatives, investigators and staff of other services of Police Department No.2 of Lviv District Police Administration No.2, as well as detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Criminal Analysis Unit of the Lviv Region Police, were brought in.
Law enforcement officers established that the crime involved a 31-year-old resident of Novoyavorivsk, who had previously already been held criminally liable. The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators from the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office, notified the detainee that he is suspected under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery). The maximum penalty under this article provides for a term of imprisonment of up to fifteen years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
