
In Lviv, law enforcement officers detained a 25-year-old man suspected of causing grievous bodily harm to a 20-year-old passer-by on Svobody Avenue.
According to the police, on 19 July at around 07:30, medics reported that a man had been beaten in the city centre. The victim was taken to hospital with grievous bodily injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that during the night a sudden conflict broke out between the 20-year-old Lviv resident and the 25-year-old assailant. During the incident, the suspect struck the victim several times with his hands and feet to various parts of the body, after which he fled the scene.
To solve the crime, officers of the criminal police, investigators and other staff of Lviv District Police Department No.1, as well as officers of the criminal analysis unit of the Lviv Region police, were brought in. After studying CCTV footage from the “Safe Lviv Region” system, law enforcement officers identified the suspect’s whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily harm). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
