In Lviv, a serviceman suspected of stealing 90,000 hryvnias from a car has been detained

In Lviv, law enforcement officers have detained a 36-year-old man suspected of stealing a bag containing 90,000 hryvnias in cash from a car near bus station No. 2 on Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Street.

According to the police, the incident occurred on 28 June at around 10:00. The perpetrator entered the interior of a Volkswagen Passat and stole a man's bag containing cash, after which he fled.

Operatives from the criminal police, investigators and officers from other units of Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, together with servicemen of the Lviv Zonal Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service, identified the suspect and his whereabouts and detained him under Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Law enforcement officers established that the detainee is a serviceman who had left his place of service without permission. He has been notified that he is suspected under Part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorised abandonment of a military unit or place of service) and Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft).

The sanctions under these articles provide for a maximum penalty of up to ten years' imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
